I could not agree more with you guys!! It is absolutely ridiculous that gas stations do this to us. Florida was not even hit that hard by any hurricane, in fact, back in Orlando all we got was rain! Now I am back in Tampa for college and gas has jumped up almost over 40 cents to almost $4 a gallon. Now I know that might not be as bad as some people have it, but when you are a college student taking 16 credit hours you do not have a lot of time to work. Therefore, it is insane to have to spend your whole check on gas when you have other things to pay for like rent and food. I mean technically this would not be considered gauging but the sudden jump in price is definitely taking a toll!

Thanks cynicalsynapse! I couldn't agree more. Personally I only hope his last just a few days as some experts predicted. Either way, after five stations, I finally found some play to be $60 worth of $3.59, so I should be good for at least a week!

Media hype causes people to panic, like it's the end of the world or something, and act like frenzied sharks with blood in the water. Some areas had fights and long lines as the pumps. You'd think the Martians were coming.

While some price hike was to be expected, the short-sighted response of people buying way more gas than normal will mean higher prices for a longer time. There may be enough gas on hand right now, but it's not as much as it should be. There are still many refineries shut down so there won't be as much gas coming for a while. I don't expect shortages, but prices will stay high.

No doubt there are plenty of cases of profiteering. In states with a declared state of emergency, that becomes price gouging. I hope those involved get charged, convicted, and sentenced. They are the chum that put the blood in the water in the first place.
